Responsibilities

  • Keeps building or assigned area neat, clean, sanitary and orderly by performing duties.
  • Laundry duties as needed.
  • Shampoos carpeting when assigned.
  • Dry mops floors in rooms and hallways.
  • Clean and vacuums carpeting in rooms.
  • Empties wastebaskets and disposes of contents in an appropriate manner.
  • Stocks machines and/or paper dispensers; replaces soap when needed.
  • Scrubs and disinfects shower areas and locker rooms as assigned.
  • Cleans seating and work surfaces; cleans glass surfaces, drinking fountains, sinks, bowls, etc., as assigned.
  • Cleans snow, ice, and debris from walkways and building entryways when assigned.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restroom areas (typically every ½ hour).
  • Moves furniture and/or equipment; relocates supplies within the building as assigned.
  • Closes and secures all windows and doors in the assigned area.
  • Keeps custodial storage areas clean, neat, and free from clutter and combustible materials.
  • Submits requests for supplies to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Keeps issued equipment and supplies clean, neat, and in usable working condition.
  • Reports damaged or unusable equipment to the supervisor.
  • Uses cleaning materials and equipment in accordance with safety standards and MSDS knowledge.
  • Maintains current MSDS knowledge of all cleaning materials in use.
  • Uses PPE in accordance with MSDS standards and school policies.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The individual is expected to be punctual, maintain good attendance, observe work and safety rules, work as a team, and complete tasks as assigned.

Language Skills—Ability to interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively with custodial staff, building staff, and administrators.

Reasoning Ability—Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands—The job requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, sitting, climbing, reaching, and manual dexterity. Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
