JOB GOAL: To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, healthy and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop. To perform routine custodial activities at an assigned school site or facility. Maintain buildings, assigned area and adjacent ground areas in a clean, orderly, and secure condition.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Perform routine custodial activities at assigned work site as directed or scheduled by maintenance supervisor.
  • Cleans classrooms and related facilities as assigned; cleans furniture, walls, floors, and ceilings.
  • Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to appropriate authority; reports and recommends need for maintenance repairs to appropriate authority; reports infractions of rules to supervisor.
  • Complies with occupational health and safety codes and standards.
  • Locks and unlocks doors and gates as appropriate; maintains security of assigned areas according to established guidelines. Notifies maintenance supervisor of equipment and supply needs.
  • Maintains school grounds (i.e. trash and debris around school grounds and in buildings). Sweeps and cleans walkways and entrances (including removal of snow and ice), disposes of trash according to established procedures, washes out trash cans and follows established sanitation procedures and standards.
  • Conducts regular maintenance of fixtures and heating/air conditioning units (oil motors, change air filters, clean units out).
  • Responds to emergency cleanup such as spills and bodily fluids; maintains records of observed maintenance, repair needs, and safety issues.
  • Attend training activities as asked by maintenance supervisor.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by Superintendent and maintenance supervisor.
  • Regularly be in rotation for overtime hours.
  • Maintain a professional, work related conversation on the two way radio.
  • Follow a chain of command when reporting problems and concerns. Report to maintenance supervisor, building principal, then superintendent.
  • Fill in other coworkers areas in their short term absence.
  • Be able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • Perform setup, teardown of athletic events, manual pulling out and pushing in of bleachers.
  • Regular, punctual attendance is expected.
  • Shall adhere to the School Board policies and procedures.
