Position Summary
To perform custodial work required for the routine cleaning and upkeep of the buildings and grounds to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and the community.
- Receive and follow instructions as directed by the lead custodian in collaboration with building administrator and the Director of Custodial Services
- Inform lead custodian of needed supplies and equipment in a timely manner as to not hinder the continued performance of job duties
- Lift and move furniture, supplies, and equipment as directed
- Assist with the preparation of special events and activities to include, but not necessarily limited to, setting up, tearing down, and cleaning
- Perform minor maintenance and repairs; immediately reports to lead custodian/building administrator needed major repairs by maintenance personnel
- Correct any minor safety hazards; immediately report to lead custodian/building administrator major safety hazards and damage to school property
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness of school property and grounds
- Clean and dust chalkboards, furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, doors, trim, and related furnishings
- Clean all glass including partitions, framed pictures, doors, windows, etc.
- Sweep and/or vacuum classrooms and other areas daily
- Scrub, mop, disinfect, and polish hard-surfaced floors in restrooms, cafeteria, hallways, classrooms, etc. as required
- Clean and disinfect restrooms and drinking fountains daily
- Replace tissue, soap and towels in dispensers
- Regulate the heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide an environment appropriate to the seasons and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity
- Monitor and turn off unnecessary lights outside of school/office hours except for those left on for safety/security reasons
- Take appropriate measures to ensure the security of the building/premises and assigned keys
- Keep floors, walkways, steps, and hallways in a clean, safe, and attractive condition at all times, especially during periods of inclement weather
- Keep buildings and grounds neat and clean at all times
- Remove trash and debris from all classrooms, hallways, offices, and other rooms daily
- Store and dispose of trash and waste materials in compliance with all state/federal laws and district procedures
- Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties
- Wear appropriate safety gear, including masks
- Comply with school district’s chemical right to know program and SDS sheets
- Adhere to all policies of the District
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the building administrator, Director of Custodial Services and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with the building administrator and others
- Ability to read, write and speak
- Ability to organize and coordinate work
- Ability to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as needed
- Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work
- Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow
- Ability to work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts
- Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor
- Prior experience in cleaning and maintenance preferred
- Successful completion of all background checks
