Altec is a designer and manufacturer of aerial devices, digger derricks, cranes and specialty equipment. This role focuses on leadership in design, development, testing, integration, manufacture, service, quality assurance, and related processes essential to the production of Altec products.

Responsibilities

  • With guidance from more experienced engineers or manager, direct engineering decisions for the department.
  • Apply prudent engineering practices and formal training to contribute to the Engineering Group and Altec’s product lines.
  • Participate as part of team-oriented design, manufacture and customer service/support efforts.
  • Operate with responsibility for engineering decisions within the scope of an assignment.
  • Know and apply fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in the engineering field.
  • As directed, may assign work to others.
  • Communicate with customers on issues of technical specifications, product design and operation as appropriate.
  • Support Operations, Sales, and Service; interface with suppliers and customers.
  • Utilize Lean principles to improve products and processes.
  • Manage various sizes of Altec projects and/or act as Team Lead; may have up to three direct reports.
  • Fulfill assigned responsibilities in one or more defined roles (Product Engineer, Application/Body Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Engineer).

Role Areas

  • Product Engineer
    • Produce/evaluate new designs and components to improve quality, cost and performance with cross-functional support.
    • Research and evaluate new materials, equipment, and processes.
    • Develop product/material/component specifications and test specifications; develop and test prototypes; ensure designs meet customer requirements and provide customer support.
  • Application/Body Engineer
    • Convert order requirements into a proposal package for the customer and a technical build package for Operations, including Unit/Body/Chassis and all components and systems.
    • Develop specifications of products, materials and components; provide technical oversight to engineering technologists and designers.
  • Manufacturing Engineer
    • Ensure manufacturing conforms to current engineering documentation; review design for manufacturability.
    • Monitor costs, manpower, machine capability, space utilization and recommend manufacturing method revisions.
    • Lead continuous improvement in Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, and Productivity; integrate new designs into Manufacturing; lead capital projects.
  • Quality Engineer
    • Develop and implement quality assurance systems; interact with customers, suppliers and all Altec departments to resolve quality issues; identify warranty drivers, root causes and corrective actions.

Education, Experience, and Skills

  • ABET EAC certified Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Internal candidates: minimum of seven (7) years’ Altec full-time experience, 5 of which must be after earning the degree; applicable Master’s counts as one year.
  • External candidates: minimum of seven (7) years’ engineering experience after earning the degree; applicable Master’s counts as one year.
  • Experience in two or more engineering disciplines at Altec (e.g., APS, QA, Manufacturing, Product) preferred.
  • Ability to interact with associates, departments, operations, distributors, vendors, customers, etc.; ability to work in teams.
  • Ability to apply advanced engineering principles; ability to guide/train less experienced engineers; ability to lead and implement projects; recognized as a technical expert in the field.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, potentially on short notice (may include flying).
