Lead Operator, Formulation (Night Shift)

Pay: $25.60/hr - $37.55/hr (Base pay range) as stated in the description.

Position Description

Lilly is entering an exciting period of growth and is investing over $1 Billion to build a new, environmentally conscious, highly automated campus in Concord, North Carolina. The site will focus on parenteral (injectable) medications, device assembly, and packaging operations. This role is part of the Parenteral (PAR) Operations team (Entry to Lead roles) during the project phase and will support startup activities required to bring the area into service, including formulation, aseptic isolator barrier filling, and visual inspection. The Expert and Lead roles will lead training and become the leaders for PAR equipment and processes. Travel domestically (2–4 week trips, or 3–9 month short-term assignments) and potentially internationally may be required to collaborate and learn from other sites. After project completion, responsibilities include continuous supply of medicines, running the process, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration, with a focus on safety, quality, and productivity. Senior and Lead Operators will coordinate daily activities to meet capacity plans and develop the team.

Key Objectives / Deliverables

Integrity

  • Provide leadership on the manufacturing floor with a focus on safety, quality, and productivity to maintain reliable product supply.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and support HSE goals.
  • Act as administrator and technical leader for operations; demonstrate knowledge of procedures and quality systems and teach proper techniques.

Excellence

  • Technical leader and primary contact for issue escalation on the shop floor.
  • Administer technical training and ensure operators are trained.
  • Operate equipment to meet production schedules; assist in checking execution documentation (Electronic Batch Record, SAP, Cleaning Logs).
  • Drive objectives to improve safety, reduce deviations, increase productivity, and ensure training compliance.

Respect for People

  • Support Site Leadership to build a diverse and capable site by delivering area procedures and quality controls for PAR.
  • Lead role in development and performance evaluations of shift operators; act as backup for Supervisor.
  • Serve as a key liaison between operations and support functions.

Requirements (Education, Experience, Training)

Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Several operator levels available based on experience and education.
  • Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Effective communication (electronic, written, verbal).
  • Flexibility to troubleshoot and triage challenges.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office, desktop software).

Time Commitments and Work Authorization

  • Must pass a fitness-for-duty physical exam.
  • During the project, flexible remote work may occur (2–4 times per month); in operation, 12-hour rotating shifts may be required.
  • Overtime flexibility; ability to wear PPE and gown in a cleanroom (Grade C, ISO 8).
  • Short-term assignments (3, 6, or 9 months) domestically or internationally for training and certification; possible short travel to the manufacturer for equipment testing.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States; Lilly does not anticipate visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Attributes (Not Required)

  • Leadership and ability to train/educate team members (Senior and Lead roles).
  • STEM degree or certifications; experience with aseptic filling, isolator technology, single-use assemblies, and automated/manual inspection.
  • Familiarity with CGMPs, manufacturing environments, MES and electronic batch release, Lean/Six Sigma, SAP, and related systems.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, medical device, or food processing industries.

Actual compensation will depend on education, experience, skills, and location. The anticipated wage is $25.60 - $37.55.
