Responsibilities
- Clinical knowledge of principles and practices of practical nursing and the ability to implement planned nursing care and provide guidance to other staff.
- Knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, body mechanics, nursing procedures, growth and development, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Skills in performing patient assessments, medication administration, tube feedings, sterile and non-sterile treatments, suctioning, tracheotomy care and catheterizations.
- Ability to carry out nursing care procedures including the physical ability to turn, bend and lift helpless patients without restrictions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to work overtime as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current licensure as LPN with the Virginia State Board of Nursing.
- Graduation from an accredited School of Practical Nursing along with successful completion of an acceptable Pharmacology course.
- Proven experience as a licensed practical nurse in a long-term care setting or in a facility providing care to the mentally ill or mentally retarded.
