Overview
Holt CAT is the largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States. This full-time, 2nd shift Heavy Equipment Mechanic - Shop Service Technician position is located in San Antonio, Texas at 5665 Connally Loop, S East Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78222. Hours are Monday–Friday, 3 pm to 12 am.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
- Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturer’s specifications using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized tooling
- Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions and maintains equipment and components
- Demonstrates good customer relations and supports; communicates customer needs to shop management
- Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
- Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
- Mentors and helps train other technicians
- Maintains all equipment and work areas in good, clean, and orderly condition
- Works safely and adheres to all safety policies; complies with company policies, procedures, and standards
- Works overtime as required by workload and customer needs
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities (e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths)
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- At least two years of diesel-powered heavy equipment repair experience preferred
- Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred
Additional Requirements
- Must have all required mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Knowledge of heavy equipment machines such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, and other dirt-moving equipment
- Proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
- Quality control analysis skills to conduct tests and inspections and communicate findings
- Operation and control skills for equipment or systems
- Equipment selection skills to determine tools and equipment needed
- Ability to operate a forklift and an overhead crane
- Ability to operate controls of a machine to exact positions
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and repair equipment
- Ability to read, write, and understand information
- Ability to listen and understand information presented through spoken words
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move objects and use core muscles to provide support without fatigue
- Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Constant movement and good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
- Ascends/descends ladders or equipment and can maneuver safely underneath equipment
- Routinely reacts to visual and audible signals and inspects work
