Job Summary

The Asheville Maintenance Technician will maintain production and facility support equipment to required specifications. You will diagnose, repair, and calibrate mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic control systems for CNC machine tools, manufacturing processes, test equipment, facility/utility and other related equipment. Troubleshooting may involve programming, tooling, machine setup, instrumentation, calibration, component failure, and other errors. You will actively participate in a team-based environment, participate in problem solving groups, and train other Maintenance Technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, install, adjust, and modify complex process equipment and instrumentation. Work with qualified operators or support teams to validate corrective actions and ensure satisfactory operating condition.
  • Maintain and repair the facility infrastructure and utility equipment to provide a reliable and safe working environment.
  • Read, interpret, and follow intricate blueprints, schematics, and instruction manuals related to hydraulic, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical components of CNC machines and manufacturing equipment.
  • Train production and technical support personnel as required.
  • Take a lead role in completing problem solving assignments.
  • Utilize Maximo (CMMS) to obtain and complete work orders and maintain accurate documentation of work history.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on all CNC/conventional machines and process equipment and update documentation as required.
  • Perform duties and tasks in compliance with safety regulations and procedures (LOTO, confined space, fall protection/arrest, hot work permits, NFPA 70e); keep facilities, materials, and work areas clean and orderly.
  • Use ladders, powered hand tools, forklifts, scissor lifts, and other equipment to perform maintenance duties.
  • Utilize complex electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, recorders, VOMs, calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, laser alignment tools) as required.
  • Participate in daily team meetings and activities, communicate professionally with team members, be open to new ideas, participate in continuous improvement and lean transformation.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial maintenance or a previous lead technician role in a comparable industry
  • Strong knowledge of mechanics and the mechanical fit of components and assemblies to meet CNC machine OEM specifications
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs), and work in environments requiring climbing, bending, crawling, or being in tight spaces
  • Well-rounded troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Eyesight correctable to 20/25
  • Experience reading and interpreting complex mechanical drawings, schematics, and manuals; familiarity with NC and PLC (ladder) programs
  • Experience with testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, megger, multimeter, ball bar, or laser alignment
  • Commitment to safety regulations and procedures (LOTO, confined space, hot work permits, NFPA 70e)
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills and Microsoft Office knowledge

Desired Characteristics

  • Associates degree in a technical field or trade school certificate
  • Advanced understanding of CNC lathes, machining centers, tooling and fixtures (Machining)
  • Team-oriented with ability to lead and direct small maintenance teams for preventive, predictive, and reliability-focused work
  • Ability to lead problem solving teams and LEAN manufacturing groups
  • Knowledge of PLCs, robotics, and complex systems
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Proactive approach to equipment and process improvements
  • Ability to train other technicians, engineers, operators, or support personnel
