Responsibilities
This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities related to Food Safety & Quality are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability. Ensures regulatory Compliance. This position is responsible for assisting the shift supervisor in managing the Packaging/Pelbo Department.
- Assist in training of all processing and production personnel in the assigned department. Assist the supervisor in updating training for existing personnel whenever equipment changes are instituted or new procedures are implemented.
- Help provide a safe work environment for all personnel. Ensure production complies with the food safety standards as established by Michael Foods, Inc.
- Maintain sanitation standards of the facility in coordination with supervisors.
- Adhere to safety policies and procedures; incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks. Ensure regulatory compliance.
- Give work direction to the packaging operators and utility personnel to organize time during setup, changeovers and run time for accurate, quick, and safe execution.
- Coordinate with processors the time lines for system readiness, lines to run, product type and amount, and line sterilization to meet production requirements.
- Maintain effective working relationships within the department and with other areas.
- Verify operator downtime, temperature charts and other required documentation for accuracy before submitting to the shift supervisor for USDA records.
- Communicate with Pasteurizer and Packaging leads to ensure efficient product flow and minimize lost production time.
- Manage incoming flow of pasteurized eggs, maintain first-in/first-out for eggs off-stacked to prevent timing out.
- Coordinate shift-change communication to ensure accurate information transfer regarding production and scheduling.
- Adhere to quality work practices, GMPs, sanitary conditions, and product quality; report any conditions that may affect food safety or quality.
- Operate the Pelbo machine according to supervisor directions.
- Monitor automatic loading of flats onto conveyors to prevent jams; oversee the entire process from entry to exit and stacking.
- Clean and sanitize machines as needed; follow PPE, GMP, HACCP, SOPs, SSOPs, USDA regulations, and safety procedures.
- Follow all PPE and safety requirements and maintain updated records.
- Report maintenance issues related to productivity, food safety, quality, and safety; encourage employee suggestions to improve productivity and quality.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Required:
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent
- Ability to bend, stoop and reach while lifting/carrying stacks of empty flats
- Ability to repeatedly lift up to 30 lbs
- Ability to follow verbal instructions
- Ability to work indoors in a wet and humid environment and stand on hard surfaces
- Ability to travel stairs
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Good hand/eye coordination
- Basic mechanical abilities
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to follow GMPs, safety regulations and wear proper PPE
- Ability to complete Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Certification
- Ability to operate specific equipment or tools
Language Skills: Read, interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups.
Mathematical Skills: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio, percent; interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions; solve problems with one concrete variable in standardized situations.
Other Skills and Abilities: Specific skills not covered above include ability to operate specific equipment, computer proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing, familiarity with specialized terminology, and fluency in another language besides English.
The pay range for this position is $17.00 to $20.00 per hour.
