Overview
Position: Port Safety and Security Officer (Security Professional). This description includes duties at the Judicial Center and Historic Courthouse and related responsibilities for security, screening, evacuation, and daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the security system (cameras, alarms, security access areas, courtrooms) and Judicial Center exit doors; perform exterior security checks of the Judicial Center and Historic Courthouse; monitor the x-ray screen for contraband and weapons.
- Conduct security screening of persons entering the Judicial Center; observe the public for suspicious behavior; answer questions and direct the public as needed.
- Assist in evacuating personnel and the public from the Judicial Center in an emergency.
- Open the Judicial Center in the mornings; start up and inspect security equipment at the beginning of duty; answer phones; maintain daily logs; notify supervisor of incidents.

- Knowledge of how to search/inspect for and recognize contraband/weapons or unauthorized activities.
- Skill in searching/inspecting individuals, materials, and facilities for contraband/weapons and unauthorized activities.
- Skill in the use of computers and various equipment used to perform daily functions of the position.
Physical Abilities
- Required to speak and hear clearly; often required to sit and use hands and fingers; may need to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb stairs or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Requires close vision.
Tasks And Policies
- Direct the safe and expeditious evacuation of courthouse personnel and the public from the Judicial Center according to procedure and agency policy.
- Monitor the x-ray monitor to determine clearance or need for open inspection based on signals and observations.
- Conduct a daily inspection of the x-ray machine to ensure proper operation per specifications.
- Accurately complete and forward daily logs including x-ray machine inspections and confiscated property for the day.
- Complete assignments to specifications within the specified timeframe and in accordance with agency policies and regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Arrive on time, limit breaks and lunches to allotted times, and use leave according to General Orders; maintain appropriate notice of leave and comply with leave policies.
- Produce work volume consistent with position requirements and quality tolerance standards.

- Follow standard office procedures, safety policies, and agency General Orders.
- Maintain good interpersonal relations with the public, other employees, and supervisors, including professional appearance and grooming.
- Operate and care for equipment, tools, and vehicles according to prescribed standards and schedules.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Valid Florida driver license required.
