Position Purpose
Utilizing a working knowledge of current Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), this position supports the financial operations of the Ministry and college and its component units. This involves performing moderately complex accounting work, including preparation, analysis, maintenance, and review of financial statements, records, and reports, along with assignments in classifying, posting, balancing, reconciling, and summarizing financial transactions. This also involves setting up and maintaining controls and records of financial information and transactions.
- Prepares and records assets, liabilities, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing financial information.
- Assist with certain electronic payments and banking transactions.
- Assist with the annual budgeting and planning process, comparing actual results to budget with a view to identifying, explaining, and correcting variances as appropriate.
- Prepares trial balance reports, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.
- Assist Accounting staff in assembling documentation for the preparation of the annual audit.
- Review accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded.
- Collaborate and assist the accounting staff with the monthly close and reporting process.
- Assist the Accounting staff with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger transactions, reconciling entries, and resolving discrepancies.
- Maintains and balances subsidiary ledgers by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions.
- Review and analyze Department and Entity budgets, assisting Ministry and College staff to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Work closely with the Accounting Management team to provide analysis and strategic reporting.
- Makes recommendations to ensure the efficient use of resources.
- Assist with technical support for accounting software and related systems.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for both general ledger and budgeting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to deal with confidential information discreetly and professionally.
- Must have excellent creative problem-solving skills.
- Must be a self-starter and able to perform duties independently with minimal direction.
- High-level computer and Microsoft Office skills.
- Able to exercise a high degree of judgment and diplomacy, and have an impeccable commitment to service and confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational skills: This role demands a high level of organization, flexibility, resourcefulness, efficiency, and a professional demeanor in the challenges represented by supporting the accounting office and Ministry staff.
- Good research skills and the ability to interpret data from varied sources.
- Mature and proactive, with evidence of having worked as a resource to the executive management team of a multi-divisional organization.
- Strong mathematical skills, analytical skills, and experience incorporating a strategic vision into an operational model.
- An effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral and written skills and a willingness to share information.
- Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.
- Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
Requirements
- Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Must sign the Statement of Faith.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field or comparable work-related experience.
- A Charis Bible College student or graduate is preferred.
- Must be able to pass all required checks.
Experience
- 3+ years of accounting, math, along with broad finance and budgeting experience, is required.
- Experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
- Experience managing finance and accounting functions (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting) within a diverse, division-based entity.
- Compensation commensurate with experience.
