Overview

Security Guard position for FT Nights at Anderson Hospital. Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment, protecting patients, staff, visitors, and property by preventing unauthorized access, managing emergencies, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and securing premises: patrol on foot or with a vehicle to detect unusual activities, breaches, or threats; inspect for safety hazards; verify locks on doors, windows, and cabinets; clear emergency routes; manage access to sensitive areas to protect vulnerable patients.
  • Access control and visitor management: verify credentials, monitor movement, screen visitors for prohibited items, escort after hours as needed, regulate visitation hours and procedures.
  • Patient and staff safety support: assist in transfers of high-risk patients, mediate and de-escalate conflicts, respond to incidents such as theft, violence, or medical emergencies, and lead evacuations during drills or emergencies.
  • Healthcare collaboration: assist healthcare professionals as backup during challenging or volatile situations and provide directions and guidance within the hospital layout.
  • Documentation and reporting: write detailed incident and security reports; maintain daily rounds logs, including patrol activities and observations.
  • Protect equipment and facilities: manage morgue access procedures where applicable and support preservation of hospital assets and privacy of patient information.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Training: Complete a 20-hour Basic Security Training Course approved by the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Obtain an Illinois PERC card (background check) and an Illinois Security License. MOAB (Managing of Aggressive Behavior) training within the first three months of employment.

Experience: Two years of security experience preferred; experience in healthcare settings preferred.

Skills: Interpersonal communication; ability to follow security procedures and hospital policies; knowledge of patient rights, safety practices, infection control, and risk management; ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Other: Strong observational skills; physical fitness for patrolling and emergency response; effective communication and collaboration with staff; empathetic mindset; de-escalation abilities; tech-savviness in report writing and security systems; CPR and First Aid certifications required.
