The Teacher position works in A Child's Place Preschool. The Teacher is responsible for curriculum development, lesson planning, gathering materials for projects, parent conferences, and developmental evaluation of children. The teacher is expected to be actively involved in all aspects of the classroom. They must actively engage and interact with children in a positive, energetic and encouraging manner.
Responsibilities
- Plan curriculum and lesson plans based on the state-approved curriculum.
- Participate in team-teaching approach.
- Communicate effectively with parents and children.
- Plan and maintain a safe, clean learning environment and ensure the well-being and safety of the children in their care.
- Prepare materials and supplies in advance for activities.
- Supervise children in classroom activities, during naptime and outdoor playtime.
- Communicate with parents, participate in parent-teacher conferences and complete developmental assessments of children.
- Assist with set-up and clean-up of the classroom each day.
- Maintain discipline and supervise children; manage classroom behavior and enforce rules.
- Facilitate activities for all children (16) both indoors and outdoors.
- Observe, respond promptly to children's needs, emergencies and conflicts.
- Safely escort and supervise children outside as they cross a parking lot to reach the playground.
- Provide constant attention to preschoolers engaged in planned physical activities to meet developmental needs.
- Prepare required reports pertaining to the group; maintain accurate and timely recordkeeping.
- Participate in professional development and acquire and maintain a Maryland Child Care Credential at a level 5 or higher.
Qualifications
Knowledge: Bachelors or Associates degree in early childhood education, development or related field; or hold a teaching certificate from MSDE or other state for early childhood; or 90 clock hours or equivalent of approved early childhood coursework (must consist of 45 hours of "curriculum" and 45 hours of "child development"); or hold a Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience in a licensed early childhood education program. Must successfully undergo fingerprinting and a criminal background check and pre-employment physical evaluation.
Skills/Aptitude: Must be able to reach a child 20 to 30 feet away within 30 seconds without endangering the staff member's health, either indoors or outside on the playground. Safely navigate the playground area, support with safety, and lift materials as required. Be able to walk, climb stairs, squat, kneel, sit on the floor, bend, stoop, stretch, push, pull, see, hear, and speak with children to engage them during instruction and to ensure children's health and safety. Adapt to a noise level that may be moderate to loud.
