A growing real estate investment and development firm is seeking a
Vice President of Accounting
to lead and scale the accounting function across a multi-entity portfolio, including residential, commercial, and student housing assets. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role is responsible for overseeing accounting operations, ensuring compliance, and providing financial insights to support strategic decision-making and growth. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage monthly and annual close processes, including multi-entity consolidations and intercompany eliminations Oversee transition to GAAP-compliant accounting and strengthen internal controls Manage corporate accounting, cash management, treasury operations, and lender reporting Oversee tax compliance and coordination with external partners Collaborate with operations, asset management, and development teams for budgeting, reforecasting, and performance analysis Identify, implement, and optimize accounting systems and automation tools Define and monitor department KPIs for close timelines, reporting accuracy, and team productivity Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering ownership and continuous improvement Qualifications: CPA required; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role Public accounting experience (Big 4 or regional firm preferred) Real estate industry experience strongly preferred, with exposure to investment, development, or property management accounting Strong knowledge of US GAAP, consolidations, and intercompany accounting Experience managing audits, tax preparation, and regulatory compliance Proficiency in accounting systems and Excel; experience with platforms such as Yardi, MRI, or AppFolio a plus Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills; hands-on, solutions-oriented approach Why This Role?
