The Vacancy
The Vacancy, Basic Function, Minimum Qualifications. This recruitment is open and promotional, meaning all are welcome to apply and current employees in permanent positions are eligible to receive seniority credit and promotional placement once passing all exams.
There is currently one vacancy working 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 10 months per year (follows student school calendar).
Special Requirement : Effective September 1, 2016, California Health and Safety Code Section 1596.7995, requires that no person shall be employed at a preschool if they have not been immunized against influenza (flu), pertussis (whooping cough) and measles.
Basic Function
Under the direction of the Administrative Director II, Early Childhood Education or designee and/or Principal, plan, monitor, and oversee the development of goals and objectives consistent with students' needs; organize and implement approved curriculum for the development of children enrolled in the District Preschool program; oversee a single site program and serve as an on-site lead teacher to assist staff and serve as coordinator of curriculum and staff development; initiate communication with the school community and related agencies as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by 24 units of college-level course work in early childhood education and one year experience working with preschool-age children in an organized setting.
Licenses And Other Requirements
Valid Child Development Program Director permit, Site Facilitator permit or equivalent. Valid CPR/First Aid certificate. Valid California class C driver's license.
Job Responsibilities
Plan, monitor and oversee the development of goals and objectives consistent with preschool students' needs;
Organize and implement approved curriculum for the development of children enrolled in the District Preschool program;
Oversee a single or multiple site preschool program and serve as an on-site lead teacher;
Initiate communication with the school community and related agencies as needed;
Lead teaching team in maintaining ongoing developmental records for each child.
Knowledge And Abilities
Concepts of child growth, development and behavior characteristics of preschool-age children;
Early childhood curriculum areas and appropriate methods for implementation and assessment;
Child guidance principles and practices;
Instructional methods, techniques and strategies related to early childhood education.
Environment
Office and classroom environment, Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
Physical Demands
Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations, Seeing to read a variety of materials and observe children, Standing or walking for extended periods of time.
VACATION – HOLIDAYS - ILLNESS
Employees accumulate twelve (12) days of vacation during the first year of employment, increasing up to twenty-two (22) days beginning the 18th year of service.
RETIREMENT
All employees who are in the classified service and work four (4) hours per day or more are members of the Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and Federal Social Security.
