The City of Coronado is accepting applications for the position of Accounting Technician I in the Department of Public Services and Engineering. The Department of Public Services and Engineering is responsible for maintaining the City’s physical infrastructure and maintenance for the City’s beaches, facilities, parks, sanitary sewer and storm drain systems, and rights of way, while protecting the public’s health and safety. The department also provides engineering management, including planning, design, construction, and repair of the City’s buildings, parks, streets, and utility systems in addition to management of a wide range of services and programs. The Accounting Technician I is an entry-level class in the technical accounting series and will perform standard to moderate technical accounting work related to the processing of accounts payable, including capital project accounting, petty cash custodian, accounts receivable, financial reporting, department budget monitoring, and annual tax reporting. Responsibilities include processing requests for warrants received from City departments; maintaining and updating accurate financial records; managing the vendor lists and accounts; preparing daily bank deposits and records; and performing a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area. The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

Experience in accounting including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing. Experience in public works or construction project accounting. Understanding of major accounting terminologies, specifically the ones used in governmental accounting area. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. The ability to apply bookkeeping and financial record-keeping principles in the maintenance of complex accounting records. Excellent Microsoft Excel skills. Moderate to strong proficiency in Tyler Munis or similar enterprise resource platforms. Experience

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: At least three (3) years of increasingly responsible technical or clerical accounting experience. Education/Training

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level course work in bookkeeping, accounting, or finance. Licenses And Certificates

Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License with a safe driving record. Application Review

Applicants considered most qualified after the application review will be invited to participate in an oral panel interview (100%). Top candidates will be invited to a department interview with the Administration Supervisor/Manager and other departmental personnel. What Coronado Has To Offer

Student Loan Repayment can be used under this benefit. Longevity Pay; bonus at 10 years and every 5 years after. Lateral Vacation Service Credit, effective January 1, 2023, employees shall be given credit for prior verifiable public service employment for annual leave accrual rates.
