Due to GEICO’s continued growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a Director, Assistant General Counsel - Customer Policies and Forms to join our Legal team. This role is a senior leadership position responsible for providing strategic legal guidance for Personal Auto and other lines . You will work closely with senior executives across product, claims, and operations, ensuring legal compliance, mitigating risk, and enabling business growth.
This position reports to the Director, Business Lines-Claims Policy, Process, and Innovation and will be a critical advisor on the legal requirements and risks impacting GEICO’s product lines.
Location:
This is a hybrid role, on-site 3 days per week at Chevy Chase, MD, New York, NY, or Beachwood, OH.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary legal advisor for GEICO’s Customer Policies and Forms, guiding product development, risk, and claims strategies.
Provide proactive legal counsel on state and federal insurance regulations, consumer protection laws, and compliance requirements.
Partner with business leaders on new product innovation and enhancements while balancing risk and business objectives.
Monitor and interpret regulatory and legislative changes affecting all business lines.
Lead a team of managers and analysts (and collaborate with other Legal leaders) to deliver high-quality, practical legal solutions.
Advise senior leadership and participate in strategic initiatives impacting GEICO’s growth and market positioning.
Represent the Legal department in internal governance meetings and external regulatory discussions as needed.
Qualifications :
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school.
Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
10+ years of legal experience, including at least 5 years focused on regulatory or insurance product matters (personal auto experience strongly preferred).
Prior experience managing attorneys or leading legal teams or managing projects a plus.
Strong understanding of insurance laws, compliance frameworks, and regulatory environment.
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal issues for business partners.
Proven ability to balance legal risk with business priorities in a fast-paced, highly regulated industry
