We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Director of Media Relations to join our team at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin. This role is pivotal in shaping and promoting the public image of our school and expanding academic medicine at UT by developing and executing strategic media relations plans and relationships. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, a deep understanding of the media landscape, development of strategic media content and outreach, and a proven record of managing media relationships in a healthcare or academic setting. The role requires building strong relationships and developing a robust understanding of Dell Med, UT’s health care strategy, branding, and messaging targets. The successful candidate will be an active listener, a collaborative thinker, a savvy communicator, and an effective strategist. Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning: Develop and maintain a comprehensive media strategy to shape the national reputation of Dell Medical School and the associated academic medical center, while promoting local and regional awareness of value and impact. Collaborate across campus to ensure alignment with University priorities and inclusive transdisciplinary work supporting health and well-being. Maintain contact with subject-matter experts to seek communications opportunities and ensure appropriate media coverage. Monitor the news cycle to inform strategy. Develop and maintain media plans and calendars. Content Creation: Conceptualize, research, write, edit and distribute press releases, media kits, briefing documents, blog posts, op-eds, official statements and other media content aligned with strategy, branding and messaging. Coordinate across Public Affairs to maximize integrated communications opportunities. Relationships & Engagement: Cultivate relationships with local, regional and national journalists and media outlets. Manage and grow media contact databases. Organize media events, interviews and press conferences. Manage media inquiries. Serve as a public information officer and spokesperson for Dell Med as needed. Training & Consultation: Supervise media relations staff, provide guidance and mentorship. Train executives and experts on media interaction, interviewing and public speaking. Advise organization leaders on media strategy and issues management. Metrics & Evaluation: Develop metrics to measure media relations effectiveness. Analyze data to improve strategies and communicate insights to executives and peers. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field and ten (10) years in professional communications, with at least five (5) years in a managerial role or equivalent media experience. Understanding of media relations strategies, landscape, best practices, and emerging trends. Experience translating enterprise strategy into a comprehensive media plan; ability to collaborate with organizational leaders to develop messaging for the media environment. Proven leadership and management skills; ability to coach teams to achieve objectives and results. Experience using media intelligence tools (e.g., Meltwater) for monitoring and extending reach. Strong writing and editing skills; ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and channels. Ability to analyze complex data sets and communicate insights via presentations and dashboards. Ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate as a team player with strong interpersonal skills and service orientation. Interest in contributing to a rapidly growing organization with adaptability and openness to new opportunities. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications

More than ten (10) years of professional communications experience, with more than five (5) years in a managerial role. Experience in issues management and crisis communications with positive outcomes. Collaboration with government and community relations professionals to inform strategy. Robust knowledge of Associated Press style. Established relationships with national news and health care trade organizations; familiarity with social media strategy; Adobe Creative Suite skills (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere). Videography/video production skills; project management software experience; experience interacting with university administrators and staff. Experience in medical education, higher education, health care or related field. Salary & Benefits
