Overview
Sutter West Bay Medical Group (SWBMG) has an opportunity for a fellowship-trained head and neck oncologic surgeon/microvascular free flap surgeon to join a subspecialty-focused OHNS department based at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) in San Francisco, CA. The practice combines community-based private practice with support from a large multispecialty organization, including an integrated team of physician assistants and nurse practitioners. The head and neck oncologic surgery team currently includes six surgeons with plans to grow the microvascular reconstructive surgery team. The department includes clinicians across related specialties and a commitment to academic work in research, education, mentorship, and leadership within SWBMG and Sutter Health.
Responsibilities
Provide full spectrum head and neck oncologic surgery and microvascular free flap reconstruction (including procedures such as thyroidectomy/parathyroidectomy, neck dissection, parotidectomy, partial glossectomy, mandibulectomy, maxillectomy, transoral robotic surgery, skin cancer excisions with sentinel node biopsy, laryngectomy, skull base surgery, and related resections). Engage in multidisciplinary tumor boards and collaborate with radiation oncology, medical oncology, radiology, pathology, dermatology, oral surgery, endocrinology, and nurse navigators within the CPMC system. Participate in in-clinic and intraoperative use of surgeon-performed ultrasound; integrate speech-language pathology in patient care. Collaborate with facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, neurotology, laryngology, general plastic surgery, dermatology, neurointerventional radiology, body interventional radiology, and neurosurgery. Provide coverage with EMTALA ER/Consult calls (approximately 2–3 weeks per year) and practice call (approximately 4–5 weeks per year), with calls paired concurrently. Contribute to leadership and growth opportunities within SWBMG, CPMC, and Sutter Health; participate in coordination of head and neck cancer care across the network. Qualifications
Board certified or board eligible in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. Fellowship training in head and neck oncologic surgery with microvascular free flap experience and interest required. Benefits and Compensation
