Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The NCCU Department of Athletics' primary purpose is to provide leadership for an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program. The NCCU Department of Athletics places the highest priority on a quality academic and athletic experience as part of the overall education of student-athletes. The Department of Athletics seeks to strengthen the integration of the athletics program objectives with academic development objectives.

Primary Purpose of Position

Under general direction, creates, maintains, and monitors a compliant environment that results in clear institutional control of all athletic programs relative to Conference and NCAA legislation as required by NCAA Division I membership; assists coaches and student-athletes in relation to programs; assists student-athletes with activities related to the University, MEAC Conference, and NCAA offices.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of NCAA Divisions I bylaws and NCAA procedures, including use LSDBi. Knowledge of NCAA Compliance Assistant Software; preferred knowledge of Banner. Analytical skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to manage several task simultaneously.

Minimum Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree, supplemented with one (1) year of related experience. Master's degree preferred.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Function Administrative

Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

Adheres to NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations; supports sports programs and student-athletes in understanding and interpreting NCAA and conference rules and regulations; assists with documentation of potential NCAA violations.

Function Instructional

Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

Provides regular compliance related educational information to coaches, athletic staff, student-athletes, key University personnel and external constituents.

Function Administrative

Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

Monitors recruiting logs, playing and practice season logs, official visits and complimentary ticket process; oversees camps and clinics. Assists in managing issues related to prospective student-athletes eligibility and amateur status; assists with documentation of potential NCAA violations.

Function Administrative

Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

Maintains necessary student-athlete data in the Compliance Assistant program; maintains student-athlete annual compliance related paperwork and tracks all student-athlete employment and amateurism issues; maintains and updates institutional compliance manual. Assist in the management of student-athlete housing and financial aid grant-in-aid process.
