Overview

The Global Engineering, Maintenance, & Sustainability (GEMS) Firm Engineering Team owns mechanical firm design and provides electrical, controls, and software firm design and integration support across Amazon's First- and Middle-Mile sites. Our scope includes First Mile (Retrofits, Expansion, Initiatives [REI] projects only) for all NACF buildings except Kariba and the Storage and Distribution Center (SDC), and Middle Mile Sites (Greenfield and REI projects): Sort Centers except central hubs. We work closely with upstream teams (GEMS concepting team, World Wide Design Engineering, NASC Engineering) and serve key customers: North America Ops Engineering, Operations, Reliability Maintenance & Engineering (RME), and Workplace Health & Safety (WHS). We intervene at critical decision points to identify and mitigate potential issues early. This role requires up to 25% travel and availability to work from a corporate office when not traveling. Candidates should live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of the office. Relocation assistance may be provided. Responsibilities

Design and develop engineering solutions for complex material handling and storage challenges considering human/equipment interactions for North America and Emerging Countries. Lead and coordinate concept and firm design development for NA and Emerging Countries fulfillment networks through equipment specification, material flow, process design, ergonomics, associate experience, operational considerations, and site layout. Collaborate with PMO, Simulation, ACES, Operations, Finance, and Ops Eng to identify network problem statements and execute pilot projects that can become network standards. Lead the firm engineering process for design reviews; ensure solutions meet or exceed Amazon standards. Write or review design/functional specifications, design verification plans, and test procedures for MHE equipment. Drive projects to closure; ensure deployed systems are maintained and meet regulatory requirements for certification. Project Management

Manage multiple projects and tasks while influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external partners, contractors, and vendors. Work with procurement and PMO to obtain initial ROM pricing and develop a CAR form; ensure funding is spent effectively with frugality. Serve as primary POC for design, schedule, cost, and safety questions throughout the project lifecycle; coordinate with operations to address schedule changes during execution. Must-haves

Understanding of full system development life cycle, within broadly defined parameters, including test plans and solution quality. Design-in-Safety experience. Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, robotics, and high-speed manufacturing (similar experience in other industries considered). Basic Qualifications Experience in design/innovation, research & development, manufacturing, process, industrial engineering, or related work. Experience in management of engineering design projects. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (any discipline), Operations, or related field with at least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty. Experience with automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing. Experience with process design based on Lean principles. Experience in capital project management. Experience with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making. Experience using MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Engineering (any discipline) + 3 years relevant experience. Other
