Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a youth-centered nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, creative expression, and career exploration, we create consistent and empowering spaces for young people and their families to thrive.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Volunteer Program Coordinator to lead MAP’s Career Advancement Workshop Series for parents and caregivers in family shelters. This role will involve designing, scheduling, and coordinating workshops focused on building skills that open doors to new career opportunities. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about supporting families as they work toward long-term stability.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate all aspects of the Career Advancement Workshop Series, from planning to delivery
Work with facilitators and volunteers to develop engaging, skill-based sessions
Manage workshop schedules, communications, and attendance tracking
Collaborate with community partners, shelters, and schools to recruit participants
Collect feedback and measure impact to refine programming
Ensure workshops reflect MAP’s mission of equity, empowerment, and opportunity
Qualifications
Experience in program coordination, adult education, or workforce development (professional or volunteer)
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Comfortable working with diverse populations and sensitive to the challenges facing families experiencing housing instability
Commitment to MAP’s mission and values
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of workforce readiness, financial literacy, or career advancement programs
Experience coordinating volunteers or community-based workshops
Familiarity with nonprofit program delivery and impact tracking
Commitment
Volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week
Flexible scheduling with some evening/weekend availability for workshops
