Summary
The Client Assistance Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Assistant Public Defenders in various phases of legal representation and for providing recommendations for and assisting in the implementation of appropriate pre and post-trial release, treatment options, conditions of probation or diversion, and sentencing and post-sentencing options.
A criminal background check is required.
Essential Duties
Essential Duties, Tasks and Accountabilities:
Interview clients and related parties, including face tot face interview in the community, county jail, state prisons, hospitals, etc. Prepare written reports regarding interviews, recommendations and actions. Collect and review client records and support attorneys and investigators through obtaining signed releases and developing an in depth client history and circumstances. Assist in making determinations regarding dispositions of adult cases at various stages of litigation. Assist clients in obtaining housing and/or treatment. Participate in client meetings that impact public defender representation. Participate in statistical projects annually to measure effectiveness of programs, outcomes of cases/interventions and departmental activities. Assist assistant public defenders with file and trial preparation, as needed. Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.
Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Qualifications / Requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of Adult Criminal Justice Systems Knowledge of social work (e.g. mental disorders, human development, social policy, developmental disabilities, cultural factors) Knowledge of public and private health and welfare agencies and community resources to formulate rehabilitation plans as alternatives to detention/placement/incarceration and as a means of reducing recidivism and incarcerations costs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Advanced organizational skills. Accurate and detail oriented Strong time management skills. Ability to establish priorities. Advanced interpersonal skills. Able to carry tasks to completion. Maturity to adapt and interact with all socioeconomic levels. Knowledge of investigative techniques. Ability to work independently and proceed with objectives. Ability to maintain confidential information and handle confidential matters. Ability to work as part of a team. A valid driver's license is required.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social sciences, Criminal Justice or related field. Ability to speak Spanish Strong professional ethics. Ability to follow office protocols. Able to use common sense understanding to carry out verbal and written instructions. Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems. Exhibits a willingness to learn new tasks. Flexibility.
