Prominent Real Estate Investment Company Seeks General Counsel
About the Company & Position: A well-established real estate investment and development company with significant holdings across Southern California is seeking an experienced
General Counsel . With a workforce of over 40 employees and a portfolio spanning commercial, medical office, and mixed-use properties—particularly concentrated in the South Bay region—this company offers a stable, dynamic environment for a General Counsel.
This is a highly visible role that combines corporate generalist responsibilities with a strong emphasis on real estate. The
General Counsel
will serve as a key business partner to executives, oversee corporate governance, and act as an officer of the company. The successful GC will bring extensive in-house counsel experience, proven real estate expertise, and the ability to independently manage complex real estate transactions.
Key Responsibilities: Draft, review, and negotiate commercial real estate documents, including office, retail, restaurant, and medical leases, lease amendments, sublease agreements, estoppel certificates, SNDA’s, lease assignments, development agreements, and loan/refinancing agreements. Manage title-related matters, including title searches, insurance policies, surveys, and ALTA policies. Oversee zoning, land use, permitting, easements, rights of way, CC&Rs, and film/location agreements. Fulfill duties of a corporate secretary by maintaining corporate governance and compliance across entities and subsidiaries. Manage litigation related to property disputes, breach of contract, negligence/personal injury, and bankruptcy claims. Partner with and oversee outside counsel on specialized litigation and transactional matters.
Salary & Benefits: Full benefits' package. Salary is $200k-$300k (DOE).
Requirements: Active California Bar license. Minimum of 15 years of legal experience, with substantial in-house experience required. Strong background in real estate law, including complex leasing and financing transactions. Real estate broker license required. Proven experience managing corporate governance and litigation matters.
