Lab Assistant - Phlebotomy (Night Shift)

Overview

Laboratory assistant responsible for biological specimens (e.g., blood, urine) receipt, identification verification, processing, and storage. Performs clerical, pre-analytic processing, and other laboratory duties including maintaining supply inventory, filing, stocking, receiving shipments, and cleaning. Works with various computer information systems daily.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process biological specimens (blood, urine) with accurate identification and labeling.
• Perform clerical tasks and pre-analytic processing; maintain supply inventory; file and stock supplies; receive shipments; clean work areas.
• Utilize laboratory information systems on a daily basis.
• Complete required tenure within the position before eligibility to transfer to other Mayo Clinic positions (2 years).
• Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position; this position does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of laboratory functions, medical terminology; background in science and 1–2 years of medical experience preferred.
• Computer literacy, keyboarding, telephone operations, and office equipment familiarity preferred.
• Ability to read specimen labels accurately and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling.
• Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing; able to work independently or in a team; adaptable to scheduling adjustments, including off-shifts, holidays, and weekend work.
• Commitment to safety compliance when handling chemicals, reagents, and infectious agents.

• DLMP/internal applicants must attach early release approvals as applicable depending on current position.
