Overview

The laboratory assistant is responsible for biological (e.g. blood, urine) specimen receipt, identification verification, processing and storage. The laboratory assistant also performs a variety of clerical and laboratory duties, including maintaining supply inventory, filing, stocking, receiving shipments, and cleaning. The laboratory assistant works with various computer information systems on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

• Receive biological specimens (e.g., blood, urine) and verify patient/ specimen information.
• Process specimens and ensure proper storage and handling.
• Perform clerical duties and other laboratory tasks including maintaining supply inventory, filing, stocking, receiving shipments, and cleaning.
• Use various computer information systems daily.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of laboratory functions, medical terminology; background in science and 1-2 years of medical experience preferred but not required.
• Computer literacy, keyboarding, telephone operations and other office equipment experience desired.
• Ability to accurately read specimen labels and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling.
• Must be organized, able to prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective oral and written communication, good human relations skills, and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Ability to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holidays, and weekend work.
• Adherence to safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents, and infectious agents.

• Compensation: $20.00 - $24.26 per hour

• Schedule Details: Monday - Friday (Variable Weekdays) 6:00am - 2:30pm
• Weekend Schedule: Every third weekend and every third holiday
