Under general supervision, coordinates with the Program Manager and Administration for the overall program operation at assigned MPS childcare location; provides leadership for childcare assistants, workers and volunteers. Essential Functions

Develops, maintains, and supports quality programming. Implements the policies and procedures of MPS and Minneapolis Kids. Actively supports MPS and Minneapolis Kids goals. Coordinates work of assigned staff; determines work schedule and assignments; conducts performance reviews, trains staff, and meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues. Addresses performance of staff on a daily basis through coaching, training, directing, evaluating, and managing performance concerns including and up to investigative meetings. Coordinates procedures for child accountability and supervision of children to ensure student safety. Develops and maintains quality programming including curriculum and schedule of daily activities; oversees curriculum planning by Child Care Assistants through assessment, coaching, and review. Oversees supervision of students in learning and recreational programs; reinforces positive behavior, provides individual assistance, encourages socialization and good communications; and enforces District policies and rules of conduct. Provides site leadership to Minneapolis Kids program staff in behavior guidance and de-escalation techniques. Purchases and maintains program supplies and equipment; maintains Minneapolis Kids site budget. Serves as a liaison between Minneapolis Kids and other school district staff and programs; prepares reports as requested. Complies with Department of Human Services (DHS) requirements by enforcing staff training requirements; meets health and safety requirements, including site crisis plans and drill logs; complies with illness, injury, and abuse reporting requirements and with correction orders given by DHS after certification audits and inspections. Enforces staff break schedule; develops and ensures substitutes receive designated break based off total hours worked; schedules and staffs substitutes to maintain legal ratio requirements in accordance with DHS. Coordinates administrative functions, including payroll, purchasing reconciliation, and building permits. Develops and maintains parent communication plans, including orientation, conferences, notes, and newsletters through multiple communication channels. Implements accommodations for students with special needs; modifies activities as needed to ensure respectful inclusion; attends parent/guardian and IEP meetings to plan for inclusion and addressing concerns. Performs duties within scope of authority and training, and in compliance with MPS policies, quality standards and DHS Certified Center licensing requirements. Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff. Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information. Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training And Experience Guidelines:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Child Development or related field ; AND

two years of experience in the coordination of programs serving preschool or school age children

including providing day-to-day work direction and mentoring of staff; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources. Knowledge Of

Managing staff, delegating tasks and authority, and coaching to improve staff performance Maintaining an effective program and making wise decisions with minimal assistance Interpreting and applying state and Federal rules, ordinances, codes and regulations Operating a personal computer utilizing specialized software Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member to plan, design, operate and evaluate school-based programming to achieve project goals Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers Effective verbal and written communication Experience operating a licensed child care center Licensing and Certification

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required. First Aid/CPR and CPI training is required. Physical Demands and Working Environment

Work is performed in an office or classroom environment, with moderate physical requirements; requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others; may require walking or standing to a significant degree and working with children.
