We’re seeking a sharp, driven
Employment Litigation Attorney
to join our in-house legal team. This is a rare opportunity to step into a
company-side litigation role
that blends the sophistication of outside-firm defense practice with the direct impact of advising business leaders across multiple industries. About Us At Chris Matthew Group, we serve as trusted counsel for a diverse group of companies under one umbrella, providing

employer-defense side of labor and employment law , helping companies avoid liability and prevail in disputes. Position Summary This role is designed for a mid-level attorney with strong civil litigation experience who thrives in the courtroom and at the strategy table. The position is approximately
80% litigation defense
and
20% proactive compliance counseling . You will oversee a mix of single-plaintiff discrimination and harassment cases, complex wage-and-hour class and PAGA actions, and pre-litigation disputes. From day one, you’ll act as both a
trusted business advisor
and a
primary litigator , managing cases from intake through resolution. Key Responsibilities Serve as
lead defense counsel
on employment litigation, including single-plaintiff lawsuits, PAGA claims, and wage-and-hour class actions. Develop and execute
strategic defense plans
to mitigate risk and drive favorable case outcomes. Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and dispositive briefs. Represent the company and affiliated businesses in
depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and hearings/court proceedings . Negotiate settlements strategically with opposing counsel, ensuring employer interests remain protected. Partner with HR and leadership teams to
proactively identify risk areas, conduct internal investigations, and advise on compliance strategies
around wage/hour, leave, performance management, and terminations. Provide
training, policy reviews, and compliance guidance
to strengthen preventative measures and reduce future exposure. Stay ahead of developments in California and federal employment laws and translate them into practical, pro-employer solutions. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Active license to practice law in California, in good standing. 5+ years of civil litigation experience with a focus on employment law, employer-side defense strongly preferred . Demonstrated success in handling PAGA, class action, and single-plaintiff defense matters. Proven ability to independently manage a caseload and develop case strategies. Strong legal writing, analytical advocacy, and oral communication skills. Organized, proactive, and resilient under litigation pressure. Spanish proficiency is a plus, but not required. Base pay range:
