Overview
Director of Metallurgy & Quality at Howmet Aerospace. Oversight of the Metallurgy, Quality Assurance, NDT, Materials Testing & Certifications teams at the Niles, OH facility. Responsibilities
Strategic leadership for Metallurgy, Quality Management System (AS9100), NDT, and Materials Testing & Certification. Develop and implement training to advance these skillsets. Provide technical leadership and expertise during interactions with strategic customers. Provide technical and quality assurance support to other Howmet Aerospace Structures facilities (Martinsville, VA; Canton, OH; Washington, MO). Develop overall Product Quality Plan, and implement/maintain systems & processes with both internal and external suppliers to ensure product quality. Work with engineering, production, and marketing staff to determine quality requirements for new and existing products. Develop a team of highly motivated quality professionals to continuously improve the QMS. Ensure compliance to AS9100, NADCAP (MTL, NDT, Heat Treating disciplines). Champion the use of PFMEA in manufacturing. Provide and direct resources for formal Root Cause & Corrective Action in an aerospace products manufacturing environment. Ensure trained resources to execute the internal audit schedule developed by QA and Operations. Drive technology improvements in laboratory testing and NDT through capital justifications. Lead Change Management Process to ensure continuous improvements while ensuring total internal and external customer satisfaction. Ability to integrate resources from inside and outside the company. Understand financial and non-financial metrics necessary to achieve high quality performance. Demonstrate diverse leadership experience in Engineering, Planning, Financial, Manufacturing or Technical areas. Maintain a shop-floor presence to drive improvements in quality across all manufacturing segments within the Niles, OH facility, and provide technical and QMS support to leadership at other Howmet Aerospace Structures facilities. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science is required. Graduate Degree in Engineering or Materials Science is highly preferred. Demonstrated subject matter expertise in titanium physical metallurgy, with a thorough understanding of processing/mechanical property relationships. Strong leadership qualities, including the ability to build a high-impact team, envision strategy, and drive the team towards achievement. Minimum 10 years of experience leading Metallurgy and Quality organizations for systems, processes, and products, preferably in aerospace manufacturing. Working knowledge of melting and hot working practices used in aerospace material manufacturing, preferably focused on titanium alloys and products. Experience implementing quality systems (AS9100) and leading change through strategic direction. Strong command of aerospace material and quality specifications (AMS, ASTM, AS9100). Experience with NADCAP MTL, NDT, and Heat Treatment accreditation processes. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with and influence senior management decisions.
