Overview
Summary: The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). Work with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates and provide leadership. The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager Position is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional high level duties specific to that position, though the majority of duties are shared. Sales Generation and Guest Service
Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service Answer questions regarding store and merchandise Recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on Guest needs Anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobing experience Demonstrate product knowledge and share education with the Team Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, policies on payment/exchanges, and security practices Contribute to sales presentations and meet or exceed goals set by Store Management Provide legendary service across Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms and the register area Know exchange/return procedures and turn opportunities into showmanship Use SPG daily to accomplish goals Support Buckle business builders and guest loyalty programs Expand Guest selection using inventory tools and product searches Build and maintain client relationships Lead by example with showmanship, service and attentiveness Communicate Guest Levels to the Team Ask business-driven questions to Managers and Teammates Be coachable and welcome feedback to improve sales presentations Demonstrate leadership actions consistently, even when the Manager is absent Plan sales goals with Store Manager Demonstrate ownership of store’s sales performance
Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development
Recognize recruiting opportunities and utilize referral methods Coach and build relationships through Guest Loyalty programs Develop and lead Teammates to meet Buckle standards in accountability, orientation, Loss Prevention and sales presentation Maintain a positive floor culture and personal dress code Participate in daily setup, training, and performance tracking Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks Demonstrate denim showmanship and fit card coaching Execute department plans and weekly delegation Demonstrate leadership during segments and engage Guests with product Update fellow leaders and Team regularly; remember Guest names Understand merchandise for Gals and Guys to benefit Team and Guests Partner with Store Manager to set education focus and delegate weekly focus Assist Store Manager in Recruitment of all store staff Explain pay and Buckle Benefits Maintain contact lists and recruit top talent Train on Leadership playbook and non-sales positions Respond to changing sales focuses with assertiveness Identify and address Teammate training needs
Visual Merchandise Management
Own and influence product through zone ownership; assign zones and projects with learning goals Execute new tools and videos related to zone ownership Delegate and review all four zones with Store Manager Ensure Teammates follow Visual Standards and Weekly Visual Checklist Recognize merchandising opportunities from freight to floor and product life cycle Provide store tours and ensure optimal display and stock presentation Make visual adjustments to improve performance via the Performance Tracker Forecast changes in product and act to improve visual results Maintain visual standards on floor and in backroom
Operations
Maintain flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holiday coverage as needed Use planning tools and complete Opening/Closing Checklists Assess security risks and prevent or respond to incidents Follow Loss Prevention guidelines and POS procedures Handle calls from Corporate Office professionally Maintain positive attitude when dealing with Guests or Teammates Understand and apply policies for payments, returns, exchanges and Loss Prevention Navigate all store tools on the home page Guide non-sales positions and ensure scheduled shifts are completed Maintain a clean, organized, shoppable store in line with Buckle’s mission Provide feedback to Store Manager on merchandise handling Communicate policy violations and concerns to Store Manager, District Manager, and Human Resources Understand and apply Buckle’s Code of Ethics and policies Assist with New Hire paperwork and tasks per HR guidelines Plan (week/month/year) and train on opening/closing checklists Complete markdowns, pulls, freight, RTVs, recalls Coordinate with Corporate Office Departments for effective store operation Maintain inventory of supplies and respond to emergencies in the Store Manager’s absence
Supervisory and Leadership
Give and receive feedback professionally Support Leadership and promote store growth Maintain professional relationships with Teammates Conduct daily interviews as needed for Team development Overcome objections and problem solve Self-educate on company tools and share knowledge Adhere to Buckle Commitment to Success Travel to cover other Stores within District as needed Manage schedule changes positively Fulfill mission by high-level customer service and teamwork Handle special projects and other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities Assists the Store Manager in supervising. Education and/or Experience
