This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders, within the scope of practice for achievement of the patient’s plan of care. It is a professional nursing role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education. This is a senior level role that may involve managing projects or processes, working independently, coaching and reviewing the work of others. Job Overview The professional registered nurse delivers and manages patient care from admission through discharge, stays current with trends in healthcare, and serves as a patient and family advocate. The nurse plans, delivers and manages patient/family centered care using the nursing process and adheres to standards of nursing practice embedded in research, evidence-based practice and best practices. Tufts Medical Center nurses provide clinical excellence within our patient- and family-centered model of care. Job Description Minimum Qualifications: Registered Nurse (RN) license. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Certifications relevant to the department (e.g., ACLS, PALS) may be required. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Specialty nursing certifications. Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties below describe the general nature of work and are not all-inclusive. Utilize theoretical and evidence-based knowledge to assess, plan, implement and evaluate age-appropriate care in partnership with patients and families. Assess and collaborate with patient, family and other disciplines to identify outcomes and cultural needs to develop a care plan. Plan and develop individualized outcomes-based care plans; coordinate discharge planning with unit-based and community resources; ensure plan of care uses principles of project, organizational or systems management. Implement the plan safely and timely; document implementation and modifications; collaborate to implement the plan; provide health teaching and document per policy and regulatory requirements. Evaluate the effectiveness of planned strategies and update the plan as needed. Demonstrate clinical judgment to implement nursing care and promote evidence-based practice; provide culturally sensitive care to all patients and families. Perform procedures and treatments following unit guidelines and professional standards; safely administer medications and assess responses. Maintain clinical competency with respect to technology and equipment; advocate and educate patients and families; support quality and safety initiatives. Participate in performance improvement activities and patient safety initiatives; contribute to achieving service excellence and nurse leadership at the bedside. Delegate appropriately and foster collaboration across disciplines; promote a positive, respectful work environment; engage in professional development and lifelong learning. May assume charge nurse functions in collaboration with unit leadership. Facilitate effective communication and stakeholder engagement; participate in staff meetings and stay informed via unit and hospital communications. Physical Requirements: Prolonged standing/walking; lifts and moves patients and equipment; reaching, stooping, bending and kneeling as required. Exposure to hazardous chemicals, infectious patients, and potential exposure to radiation or other hazards. Regularly exposed to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious risks; handle emergency situations; irregular hours; possible exposure to hazardous materials. Skills & Abilities: Provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan with culturally sensitive communication. Care for a designated group of patients per unit guidelines and hospital policies. Interpret age-specific data and respond appropriately to patient needs.
