Senior Director of Foundation Relations develops and executes a strategy to secure grants, philanthropic gifts, and sponsorship funding from private foundations, community foundations, and other private sources to support Goodwill Southern California’s social enterprise and 85+ community impact programs across Los Angeles and the Inland Empire. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Director will expand the foundation portfolio and establish relationships with leading foundations locally and nationally aligned with the mission to drive systems change and outcomes for underserved individuals. This senior leader will collaborate with the Development Team and Goodwill Southern California’s Workforce Career Development (WCD) program leaders to prepare inspirational funding proposals ranging from $500K to $15M, drive revenue growth through new and existing funding opportunities, and build relationships with foundation representatives, key philanthropists, and charitable funders. The role emphasizes developing collaborative requests with internal stakeholders and external partners, compliance and reporting, data analytics, grant revenue sustainability planning, strategic planning, and proactive renewal efforts. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and execute plans to secure multi-year grants, unrestricted gifts, and sponsorship funding from private foundations, community foundations, and other sources to support Goodwill Southern California’s programs and social enterprise. Identify, solicit, negotiate, and steward foundation partners for program initiatives, general operating support, and capacity building. Drive revenue through new and existing sources of private foundations, community foundations, federated fund grants, donor-advised funds, and related sources. Lead the preparation of $500K-$15M proposals in collaboration with WCD department subject matter experts to develop data-driven, compelling initiatives. Cultivate and steward current foundation funders; oversee foundation visits with partners and Goodwill senior leadership. Conduct campus visits with prospective and current foundation partners (1-3 per month) and field or virtual visits (6-10 per month). Submit 80-90 funding requests annually with an initial revenue solicitation goal of $4.5-$8.5 million, increasing over time. Prioritize and manage grant application timelines, submission requirements, and reporting deadlines for a portfolio ranging from $5M-$20M annually; prepare funder performance reports. Coordinate with WCD and Finance to ensure program compliance, monitor grant performance, track outcomes, and prepare progress reports; maintain organized digital submissions and reporting packages. Represent Goodwill Southern California as a senior leader and supervise grant support staff and volunteers, providing mentorship on proposal development and grant management. Contribute to foundation event programming and mission messaging to increase visibility, impact, and scale of Goodwill SoCal’s work. Ensure compliance with the Association of Fund-Raising Professionals’ Code of Ethics and the Donor Bill of Rights. Travel regularly within Southern California to attend meetings and become familiar with programs; valid CA driver’s license and auto insurance required. Education & Experience

7-15 years of proven foundations relations experience in a nonprofit, large foundation, or equivalent organization. Track record of securing seven-figure foundation funding; knowledge of the competitive foundation landscape in Southern California and nationally; experience developing program proposals and complex grant budgets; experience engaging with executives from foundations and charitable organizations. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university. Excellent oral and written English communication skills. Experience with Windows-based software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Email. Must have a valid driver’s license and state-required auto insurance; willingness to travel (>50% of the time). Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to write concise reports and deliver strong presentations; excellent problem-solving and attention to detail; strong project management and time management skills.
