Overview
Project Engineer – Interior Specialties at Hoffman Construction Company. The Project Engineer will work within the Engineering Department, supporting Hoffman Specialty Contracting, Inc. (HSC), Hoffman’s interior specialties affiliate. Reports to the VP of Operations and President of HSC and collaborates with the HSC Project Superintendent and HSC Project Manager, design professionals, clients, vendors, and subcontractors to address complex coordination issues. The position is project-site based with locations varying by city/state. The ideal candidate has a strong background in project engineering, interior framing, drywall, acoustical ceilings, interior finishes, structural engineering, project management, and experience with interior specialties contractors. Responsibilities
Run meetings involving area managers, design team members, multiple subcontractors, and client representatives. Interface between area managers, multiple vendors, and/or subcontractors to resolve field coordination items. Interpret design and construction documents, technical manuals, and quantify materials required for construction. Coordinate all interior specialty scope elements with overall architectural, structural, and MEP elements within project design. Organize and facilitate training of the client’s personnel in operations and maintenance of interior specialty elements and systems. Review and process submittal information and coordinate between multiple submittals to ensure accuracy and functionality of components. Generate, receive, and distribute requests for information (RFI). Receive and distribute change documents issued by other team members. Field survey layout of control lines and benchmarks. Serve as the technical advisor at onsite field construction office. Coordinate architectural, structural, and MEP systems within the project’s interior design. Qualifications
Position Related Skills: Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office 365; familiarity with project management software (e.g., Prolog, Procore, E-Builder, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6) and design software (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks). Training in design and construction document reading, design specifications, survey theory and techniques. Experience in organizing technical data; familiarity with CSI specification system. Strong understanding of all aspects of construction; highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills. Ability to work well under pressure with a cooperative attitude; excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to collaborate with trades and crafts on site; team-oriented with flexibility for extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate construction schedules. Professional Experience and Education
At least two (2) years of experience in commercial construction with metal stud framing, drywall, suspended ceiling systems and interior finishes. Strong knowledge of interior construction methods, materials, and techniques. High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction engineering management, or equivalent field experience. Physical And Mental Requirements
Work involves both office work and movement on construction sites; able to ascend/ descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs and work in confined spaces. Must be able to operate a computer and other office equipment; capable of handling typical physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds over short distances. Must have good vision and depth perception; able to work in environments with loud equipment and wear hearing protection as needed. Ability to communicate in English about laws, plans, regulations, protocols, and procedures related to the project scope.
