Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 3:00pm - 12:00am

Expected Starting Hourly Range: $15.45 - $19.31

Job Summary

This custodial position performs routine cleaning duties using a variety of cleaning materials and equipment. Responsibilities include maintaining custodial duties such as trash removal, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning windows, restrooms, furniture, stocking custodial closets, and reordering supplies. The role also identifies maintenance concerns and directs them to the maintenance department and supervisor. Provide prompt and courteous service to co-workers and the general public.

Important Note

Employees may be subject to independent background investigations which exceed those conducted by Manatee County, due to access to secured government facilities. Based on investigation results, access to secured areas may be declined. If the County cannot utilize the employee in other operations, employment may be non-disciplinaryly separated.

Working Conditions

Constant indoor work with chemicals and solvents. Frequent lifting (15-44 lbs). Regular use of fingers, good vision and hearing, walking, standing and bending. Occasional outdoor work in heat, cold, humidity, darkness, and dusty or oily conditions; climbing ladders/scaffolding; working at heights; and potential exposure to poor ventilation and unusual fatigue factors.

Essential Functions (illustrative)

  • Ensure general cleanliness of assigned County offices and buildings.
  • Sweep, mop, polish, and vacuum floors; wash walls, windows, ceilings, woodwork, and mirrors (ladder use may be required).
  • Clean restrooms and fixtures; stock supplies; report/repair lavatories; perform minor repairs.
  • Remove trash; clean desks, cabinets, and furniture; access under desks may require crawling, kneeling, or stooping.
  • Perform major cleaning operations (e.g., floor stripping).
  • May drive light-duty trash trucks; may set up displays or meeting rooms.
  • May supervise or train others on equipment use and office/building maintenance.
  • Prepare reports, maintain work records, and estimate material needs; provide recommendations for preventative maintenance.
  • Perform other related work including weather or emergency duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to read and write; understand and follow instructions.
  • Familiarity with power tools, equipment, and materials used in custodial services.
  • Valid driver's license; Florida driver’s license required within 30 days of hire.
  • At least one year of janitorial or custodial experience highly desired.
  • Knowledge of cleaning processes, supplies, equipment, safety precautions; ability to read cleaning product labels; ability to follow oral instructions; ability to work with minimal supervision; ability to work well with others; ability to train and supervise others.
