Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field. Postdoctoral experience. Demonstrated excellence in innovative research. Strong commitment to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, particularly in organic and/or biological chemistry. Expectations
The successful candidate is expected to have already established a vibrant, extramurally funded research program that will enhance SBU\'s research enterprise. This includes conducting fundamental research, supporting translational projects that generate intellectual property, and/or contributing to multi-PI grant proposals. Research Environment
The Department of Chemistry at SBU is highly interdisciplinary, with faculty holding cross-appointments in departments such as the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, and the Renaissance School of Medicine. Faculty also have cross appointments in neighboring institutions, including Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Faculty members participate in research hubs including: Institute for Chemical Biology & Drug Discovery Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology Institute for Advanced Computational Science Two DOE-funded Energy Frontier Research Centers (synthesis science and energy storage) Center for Advanced Technology in Integrated Electric Energy Systems Center for Advanced Study of Drug Action Graduate training is supported by NIH-funded Chemistry-Biology Interface Training Program and the NSF-funded Research Traineeship Award. BNL offers facilities such as the Center for Functional Nanomaterials and the National Synchrotron Light Source II.
