Overview
Provides leadership and professional expertise in the planning and implementation of special events and functions designed to enhance the image of and build relationships with the College/ Division. Responsibilities
Provides highly collaborative, team-oriented leadership, professional expertise, and direction in the planning, development, and execution of an annual program of high-quality events and functions for the Office of the Dean and the constituent units of the College/ Division; directs the daily activities of the College's Special Events staff, as assigned. Provides highly collaborative, team-oriented leadership and direction in execution of the details of event production, with emphasis on high standards for customer relations. Evaluates and selects geographic locations for events; negotiates contracts and evaluates options with a variety of vendors; and coordinates all related services with vendors in compliance with university policies, procedures, and guidelines. Collaborates with committees and/or appropriate individuals to develop a program for events, including speakers, topics, and timing; communicates with speakers and other vendors regarding their commitment to the event and their needs related to all aspects of the event. Ensures that the priorities of the Office of the Dean and the constituent units of the College are reflected in the planning and presentation of events, ensuring that information is communicated clearly and professionally with appropriate constituents, including faculty, staff, volunteers, contractors, vendors, etc. Develops and maintains highly professional standards and procedures for production of events, in keeping with the image, reputation, and professionalism expected of the College/ Division and the University of Houston. Serves as a highly professional, collaborative, and team-oriented representative of the Office of the Dean or of the Directors of the College's constituent units in the execution of all hosted events and as the College's central resource for matters of event protocol (including event format, image projection, etiquette, etc.). Prepares pre- and post-event analysis and year-end event reports, assesses opportunities and makes recommendations for improving services to internal and external constituencies, assesses planning processes for the annual program of special events and makes recommendations to the Office of the Dean for improvements, and implements those improvements as appropriate. Develops, administers, and manages an annual special events budget and provides budgetary analysis and reports following events. Performs other job-related duties as required. Qualifications
MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience. Additional Information
