The Commercial Lines Underwriting unit of Verisk Insurance Solutions is hiring an experienced Sr Director of Risk Engineering and Innovation to lead the team that provides deep technical insurance and risk control knowledge on commercial lines underwriting products. The role will drive, participate in, and support Commercial Lines thought leadership and Innovation efforts while maintaining brand recognition and leadership. Our objective is to attract a leader who has deep insurance risk control knowledge, understands underwriters' needs, and has a business development drive to innovate within the Commercial Lines Property/Casualty Market.

Lead and empower the Engineering and Data quality teams with the goal of innovating toward the development of new products based on risk control field experience and insurance underwriting needs.

Responsible for communicating with the customer and through the Commercial Lines Underwriting organization about evolving and emerging risks and hazards with the goal to innovate, train, coach and develop new products and solutions from the customer’s view and technical excellence.

Understand Customers’ needs in collaboration with the Product and Customer Engagement teams to develop and support new initiatives, services and products.

Drive, coordinate and contribute to thought leadership activities, such as collaborating in the development of white papers, supporting speakers at industry events, or utilizing other mass media platforms, to help maintain our market leader position.

Leverage customer interactions and market research to identify new product innovations related to product direction/planning.

Responsible for quality control of proprietary commercial property databases and related data collection processes and workflow.

Lead, drive and manage the development and maintenance of procedures and guidance related to field operations for building and community mitigation surveys in alignment with onsite risk control deep domain expertise and customer needs.

Fosters collaboration between Underwriting, Product, Actuary, Survey, and Finance on key initiatives and strategies to ensure growth and profitability of the unit.

Proven experience leading team(s) with strong records of building great internal and external customer relationships that focus on gaining actionable insights and forming collaborative partnerships with the goal of innovation, product improvement, and ease of use.

Ten (10) years or more in insurance loss control experience of commercial property risks, associated underwriting practices and issues, and understanding of insurance surveys with key risk control and best practice recommendations.

Strong problem solving, mentoring, conceptual thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to deal with ambiguity.

Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including presentation skills. Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with internal staff and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization with varying levels of technical skill.

Strong analytic skill with knowledge of predictive modeling, probabilities, and statistical analyses to be applied to the insurance loss control, rating, and underwriting products.

Comfortable speaking in front of a room full of industry executives but can also dive into the details of a challenging quantitative problem to solve customer needs.

Strong critical thinking, analytical problem-solving and negotiating skills; business creativity is a must.

10% – 15% travel.
