Introduction
Delaware's Attorney General, the State's chief law enforcement officer, has a broad responsibility to combat crime, uphold civil rights, safeguard families, fight fraud, and protect consumers in the First State. Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more. The Office of the Attorney General is supported by teams in the Criminal, Civil, Family, Fraud and Consumer Protection, and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions, with more than 500 staff dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion.
Summary Statement The Criminal Division, Kent County, seeks a dedicated attorney to join the Special Victims Unit as Deputy Attorney General. Essential Functions These Deputy Attorneys General will manage caseloads involving sexual assaults, as well as cases of child death, abuse, and neglect. They will attend victim interviews at the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) and conduct pre- and post-arrest intakes with investigators. In collaboration with medical professionals, detectives, and child welfare professionals, they will investigate these cases, evaluate evidence for charging decisions, and prosecute crimes supported by the evidence. Additionally, they will share on-call responsibilities with other Deputy Attorneys General to assist police with after-hours investigations.
Job Requirements Strengths for these positions include the ability to manage complex investigations; an interest in, and willingness to learn and understand, medical evidence; strong judgment in evaluating and resolving criminal cases; and the capacity to anticipate and effectively research legal and medical issues in litigation. Successful candidates must be able to establish strong working relationships with detectives, medical personnel, child welfare professionals, other Deputy Attorneys General, support staff, and court personnel. Candidates should also be prepared to independently try serious cases and apply relevant laws and court rules. Membership in the Delaware Bar is required.
