Shelter Advocate – Full-Time Who We Are Model Cities champions social and economic prosperity by providing opportunities that stabilize and develop families and communities since 1967. Our work supports marginalized and underserved communities, with a focus on economic stability for Black Minnesotans in Saint Paul. We address barriers to homelessness, housing, homeownership, economic development, and financial wellness, and your role as a Shelter Operations Day Coordinator will be instrumental in this mission. Responsibilities As a Shelter Advocate, you will work under the direct supervision of the Program Manager or designee. You will maintain a regular presence at Safe Space, support clients, and guide staff and volunteers to ensure the shelter operates efficiently and guests\' basic needs are met. This role involves shelter coverage 365 days a year, including days and weekends, in rotation with other staff. We seek candidates with leadership experience and the ability to thrive in high-stress environments. Strong people skills are essential for interactions with shelter guests and collaboration with staff, volunteers, and partners. The Role • Maintain client data in the HMIS database, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy. • Participate in All Staff meetings, shelter team meetings, and related agency meetings; assist in planning and facilitating monthly shelter team meetings. • Coordinate inventory of shelter supplies; work with staff to manage supplies and alert leadership to needs. • Collaborate with Program Manager and staff to provide information for reporting to funders, the board of directors, and others. • Stay current on developments that could influence Safe Space and the agency\'s strategies. Essential duties and responsibilities: Maintain regular presence at Safe Space, support clients, and guide staff and volunteers to ensure shelter operations and guests\' basic needs are met. Work with the shelter team to assess guest needs and provide advocacy and referrals for housing, probation, healthcare, mental health, chemical dependency, and other services. Participate in All Staff and shelter team meetings; assist in planning monthly shelter team meetings. Provide information for reporting to funders, the board of directors, and others. Maintain cleanliness to standard. Respond to incident reports for medical emergencies, chemical abuse, theft, threats, and violations of shelter guidelines. Collaborate with Program Manager and Shelter Operations Coordinator to train shelter staff and volunteers on policies and practices. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent Leadership experience De-escalation skills and experience Valid driver\'s license Reliable transportation Ability to pass a background check Competencies Required
