The Director of Residential Construction provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and executive-level management for River View Construction’s residential and multifamily construction portfolio. This role is responsible for ensuring that all projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and at the highest level of quality. The Director oversees project management teams, field staff, and subcontractors while serving as a key liaison with ownership groups, lenders, architects, and corporate leadership. Key Responsibilities
Provide vision and leadership for the construction division, aligning operations with company goals and client expectations. Establish and enforce construction policies, procedures, and best practices to drive consistency and operational excellence. Mentor and develop Project Managers, Superintendents, and support staff to build a strong, results-driven team. Support business development and preconstruction efforts by participating in proposals, client presentations, and strategic growth initiatives. Project Oversight Oversee the execution of multiple residential and multifamily projects simultaneously, from preconstruction through closeout. Ensure project teams maintain accurate schedules, budgets, and reporting in compliance with ownership and lender requirements. Monitor quality assurance and control standards across all projects to deliver superior workmanship. Act as executive sponsor on high-profile projects, representing River View Construction in client and stakeholder meetings. Develop, manage, and monitor division-level budgets, forecasts, and financial performance metrics. Review and approve contracts, subcontracts, change orders, and major project expenditures. Partner with accounting/finance to ensure timely billing, funding requests, and cash flow management. Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies across the portfolio. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure strict adherence to building codes, zoning requirements, and all federal, state, and local regulations. Oversee company-wide safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with OSHA and corporate safety standards. Manage risk by maintaining appropriate insurance coverage, contract protections, and vendor compliance programs. Lead resolution of escalated disputes, claims, or construction-related legal matters in coordination with counsel. Communication & Reporting Provide executive-level updates on project and division performance to corporate leadership and ownership groups. Ensure clear and consistent communication between field staff, project managers, vendors, and clients. Maintain strong relationships with external partners including architects, engineers, lenders, and city officials. Qualifications
Minimum
10+ years of progressive residential/multifamily construction experience , with at least
5 years in a senior management role . Proven ability to lead multiple large-scale construction projects ($10M+ per project) through all phases. Strong knowledge of construction methods, scheduling, budgeting, and contract administration. Proficiency in construction management software ( Procore, JobTread, MS Project, or similar ) and Microsoft Office Suite. Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred. OSHA 30 and relevant safety certifications strongly preferred. Executive-level salary commensurate with experience. Annual performance-based bonus and profit-sharing potential.
