Job Summary The Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) provides direct support to surgeons during operative procedures by assisting with surgical tasks, ensuring patient safety, and optimizing surgical outcomes. The CSFA plays a vital role in the surgical team, facilitating efficient workflow and maintaining a sterile environment throughout the procedure. Key Responsibilities Assist surgeons during operative procedures by handling instruments, tissue, and sutures as directed. Maintain sterile field and adhere to infection control protocols. Prepare the operating room and surgical equipment before procedures. Provide exposure, hemostasis, and wound closure assistance as required. Anticipate surgeon needs and respond promptly during surgery. Monitor patient status and collaborate with surgical team members to ensure patient safety. Assist in positioning and draping patients to maintain surgical site access and safety. Document surgical activities and assist in post-operative care and reporting. Participate in continuous education and maintain certification standards. Re quired Qualifications Certification as a Surgical First Assistant (e.g., Certified Surgical First Assistant - CSFA) from an accredited program. Current licensure or registration as required by state regulations (RN, LPN, or CST preferred). Proven experience assisting in surgical procedures. Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, anatomy, and aseptic techniques. Excellent manual dexterity, communication, and teamwork skills. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in a hospital or surgical center setting. Additional certifications related to surgical nursing or perioperative care. Certif ications Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) – required and current. Registered Nurse (RN) License or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – preferred depending on role requirements.
