Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Description

The Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) will support remediation work by performing various construction tasks. These tasks include clearing and grubbing, installing erosion control materials, soil excavation, grading, dewatering, backfilling, truck scaling, equipment decontamination, and restoration efforts. The primary responsibility is to operate construction equipment such as excavators, backhoes/loaders, dozers, skid-steers, and roller compactors. Equipment operation will comprise 75% of the job duties, while the remaining 25% will involve general labor tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy construction equipment including excavators, dozers, backhoes, bobcats, rollers, and compactors.
  • Perform construction tasks such as clearing, grubbing, and installing erosion control materials.
  • Conduct soil excavation, grading, dewatering, backfilling, truck scaling, and equipment decontamination.
  • Assist in restoration efforts as part of the remediation work.
  • Engage in general labor tasks when equipment operation is not required.

Essential Skills

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators and Dozer
  • Previous construction or civil experience with outdoor work involving dirt movement.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 75% of the time.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Possession of a 40-hour Hazwoper certification is beneficial but not required for this project.
  • Experience in environmental operations is advantageous.

Work Environment

This position involves outdoor construction work exposed to various weather conditions, including extreme heat and potential cool weather. Expect to work in wet conditions typical of construction sites. The work attire includes steel-toe boots, jeans without holes, and a shirt with sleeves. Work hours are Monday through Friday, starting between 5-7 AM and lasting for 10-12 hours per day, with potential Saturday work. When traveling, work hours may extend to 50-60+ hours per week, with a minimum of 40 hours and 10-20 overtime hours per week.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
