Job Description: Do you want to make a difference in the lives of Nebraska's veterans? The Nebraska Department of Labor is seeking a motivated, community-minded professional to serve as a Veterans Reemployment Coordinator in a consolidated role combining duties of both the Disabled Veterans' Outreach Program (DVOP) Specialist and the Wagner-Peyser Workforce Coordinator. This position is based in the Omaha American Job Center and is funded through the Jobs for Veterans State Grant (JVSG).
The role focuses exclusively on serving veterans-especially those facing barriers to employment. This person must be self-motivated, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, independent role. They will take initiative to support veterans, building strong relationships and providing case management to help them overcome employment challenges.
The ideal candidate will be a U.S. military veteran passionate about helping others, particularly veterans, with career development. They should be adept at connecting veterans to resources, advocating for their needs, and ensuring successful workforce outcomes.

Examples of Work Provide individualized career services to eligible veterans and spouses, including assessments, resume help, interview coaching, and vocational guidance. Develop and maintain Individual Employment Plans (IEP) to assist veterans in overcoming employment barriers and achieving their career goals. Coordinate services with partner agencies and training providers to ensure comprehensive support for veterans. Facilitate veteran-specific outreach activities, including job fairs, workshops, and veteran-focused events. Collaborate with community organizations to promote veteran employment and provide holistic services. Document all services in NEworks, ensuring compliance with JVSG and federal reporting requirements. Stay current with best practices in veteran employment services through training and professional development opportunities.
Location: This is an on-site position located at 5752 Ames Avenue, Omaha, NE.
Work Schedule: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; Monday - Friday
Requirements / Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
Post high school coursework or training in social/behavioral sciences, counseling, business, public administration, education, marketing, or a related field; or experience in client development and case management including interviewing, research, and direct customer service.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in human resources, behavioral science, business administration, communication, education, marketing, or related field. Experience working with workforce development programs, including WIOA, VETS, or DOL grants, working with individuals who face employment barriers; working in outreach, recruiting, sales, or employer engagement. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
Other:
MUST BE A VETERAN OF MILITARY SERVICE
(per 38 U.S.C. 4103A and 4104 federal requirements). Preference will be given in this order: 1) Qualified service-connected disabled Veteran; 2) Qualified eligible veteran. To verify veteran status, the DD214 and other necessary paperwork needs to be submitted with the application. Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities Knowledge of:
Veteran-specific services and benefits available through the Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS) and other workforce development programs, including WIOA, VETS, or DOL grants; equal opportunity laws; vocational counseling or career guidance; employment trends and labor market information; case management interviewing procedures and techniques; developing and designing training programs; typical office computer systems; Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Access, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), SharePoint, Google Docs; NEworks or similar case management systems.
Skilled in:
Public speaking or communicating with an audience; relationship-building skills; presenting information clearly using various media, strong case and time management skills.
Ability to:
Plan and organize work; communicate to disseminate information to a diverse group of people; promote/market/present services to groups of individuals; follow instructions; interact with clients, employers and the public; administer tests and measurements; conduct evaluations; create presentations; manage multiple programs; manage and document detailed case notes; learn and apply agency rules, policies and procedures; maintain appropriate, professional working relationships with the public, coworkers and management; maintain regular and reliable attendance.
