Salary Information

Assistant Social Worker: $3,868 - $4,937 APPROXIMATE MONTHLY* / $22.31 - $28.48 APPROXIMATE HOURLY*

Social Worker: $4,478 - $5,715 APPROXIMATE MONTHLY* / $25.84 - $32.97 APPROXIMATE HOURLY*

About the Department

The Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) partners with communities to protect and improve health and well-being. HHSA is organized into four branches: Behavioral Health & Social Services, Public Health, Economic Mobility, and Administration Services. HHSA provides services to meet basic needs and protect health and safety.

Adult Services focuses on issues affecting people aged 18 and older, including outpatient and crisis services, In-Home Supportive Services, Public Guardian, and related programs. Mental Health Services Act administration is also housed in Adult Services.

About the Position

Under the supervision of the Clinical Program Coordinator and Senior Social Worker, the Assistant Social Worker/Social Worker manages cases for Medi-Cal recipients who qualify for specialty mental health services. The role handles a substantial caseload, works independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, and provides information about services, makes referrals, and performs other duties as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Assistant Social Worker is the trainee class in the professional Social Worker series and operates under constant and detailed supervision as skills develop. A Social Worker carries a full caseload with greater independence, handling more complex cases.

Social Worker is the full journey level, handling difficult cases with a high degree of independence and requiring advanced casework skills and program knowledge.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have strong communication, multitasking, organizing, and interpersonal skills; experience in case management (preferably specialty mental health); ability to maintain accurate documentation; and a commitment to diversity, inclusion, collaboration, adaptability, respect and excellence. A two-year minimum in case management is preferred, with emphasis on community resources and rehabilitative skills.

Critical skills include interviewing, teaching rehabilitative skills, and developing care plans within a community setting.

Minimum Qualifications

Assistant Social Worker: Possession of a bachelor’s degree, including 30 semester units in social welfare, social/human services, sociology, or other behavioral sciences.

Social Worker: Two (2) years of professional social casework experience, or a master’s degree in social work or a master’s degree from a two-year counseling program, or being a registered MFCC intern, or a bachelor’s degree with 30 units plus two years of experience as an Assistant Social Worker in Shasta County, or two years of experience in child/adult protective services comparable to an Assistant Social Worker in Shasta County.

OR

Two (2) years of experience performing social casework services in accordance with the County’s requirements.
