Under supervision, performs beginning-level engineering work in the field and office, following established engineering methods and procedures. Assists professional engineers in tasks requiring engineering skill and judgment; makes contacts with the public, contractors, and others on engineering matters; gathers, prepares, and maintains engineering data, records, and reports; applies engineering principles to civil, mechanical, electrical, environmental, or transportation engineering problems; may direct the work of technical and/or clerical staff. Responsibilities

Prepares or assists in preparing studies, calculations, designs, drawings, sketches, and plans using AutoCAD and other software tools. Makes field inspections of structures and sites for future construction, repair, or maintenance; conducts preliminary field studies and surveys and collects data for designs and drawings. Conducts regular field inspections of construction projects to ensure conformance with plans, specifications, and codes; records work progress. Prepares or assists in preparing reports, contract specifications, material lists, cost estimates, schedules, and progress payments. Prepares or assists in departmental reports and reports on field conditions, project progress, study results, and related matters. Provides written and oral responses to inquiries from other agencies, contractors, and the public. May direct the activities of technical and/or clerical staff. Performs specialized duties in civil, mechanical, electrical, transportation and/or environmental engineering. Qualifications

Possession of a baccalaureate degree or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. OR possession of a degree from a non-ABET program with Electrical Engineering and an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate or a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering in California. Notes: Candidates graduating within six months may be invited to take the examination but not hired until graduation verification is received; EIT may be required by filing deadline for non-ABET graduates. Candidates may be invited to take the exam if within six months of graduation; waiver processes apply pending verification of degree. Most positions require a valid California driver license. Selection Procedures

Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ) may be required. Electrical Engineering Written Examination (weight 100%): multiple-choice exam on knowledge areas including ethics, engineering economics, circuit analysis, power, electronics, control systems, digital systems, etc. Format may be computer or paper; details to be provided in appointment notification. A passing score on all components is required to be placed on the eligible list; scores may be used for other announcements. Additional Information
