$165,000.00/yr - $185,000.00/yr Description The Director of Technical Services provides strategic leadership and direction for all technical, quality, and materials functions across Ready-Mix Concrete, Asphalt, and Aggregate operations. This role ensures product performance, regulatory compliance, mix design innovation, and technical excellence across all divisions. The Director leads the Technical Services, Quality Control, and Laboratory teams, serving as the company’s principal technical authority and a key partner to Operations, Sales, and Safety leadership. Essential Functions of the Position STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP

Set the long-term vision and technical direction for material performance, quality standards, and compliance programs across all product lines. Partner with executive leadership and operations to align technical strategies with business goals, cost control initiatives, and sustainability objectives. QUALITY & PERFORMANCE OVERSIGHT

Oversee all testing, inspection, and certification programs for Ready-Mix, Asphalt, and Aggregates. Implement and maintain uniform quality systems, procedures, and reporting standards across all plants and laboratories. Review and approve mix designs, ensuring consistency, performance, and cost efficiency. TECHNICAL INNOVATION & SUSTAINABILITY

Drive innovation through research, material optimization, and the integration of recycled materials such as RAP, CMB, and returned concrete. Lead continuous improvement projects to enhance product durability, reduce environmental impact, and support long-term sustainability goals. CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION

Act as the senior technical liaison for customers, regulatory agencies, and industry partners. Support Sales and Operations by providing advanced mix design support, technical presentations, and field troubleshooting expertise. Collaborate with Safety and Environmental departments to ensure compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, Caltrans, and local standards. TEAM DEVELOPMENT & LEADERSHIP

Lead, mentor, and develop the Technical Services, Quality Control, and Laboratory management teams. Foster a culture of accountability, professional growth, and continuous learning through structured training and certification programs. SYSTEMS, REPORTING & COMPLIANCE

Oversee accreditation and certification documentation for all laboratories. Monitor quality performance metrics and report results to senior leadership. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, environmental, and safety requirements. Skills and Knowledge

Deep expertise in concrete, asphalt, and aggregate materials, mix design, and production processes. Strong understanding of ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, Caltrans, and DOT standards. Demonstrated ability to lead large, cross-functional technical teams. Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, and presentation skills. Strategic problem solver with a data-driven mindset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, laboratory software, and quality control systems. Requirements

10+ years of progressive experience in Technical Services, Quality Control, or Materials Engineering within the construction materials industry. 5+ years in a senior leadership or director-level role overseeing multiple locations or divisions. Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage large-scale quality programs. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Construction Management, or related field (Master’s preferred). Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and willingness to travel between facilities and job sites. Preferred Certifications (Not Required)

ACI Aggregate Testing Technician – Level I or II State-specific asphalt and concrete certifications Physical Demands

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform site visits in plant and field environments. Travel regularly to production facilities, job sites, and customer locations.
