High School In House Substitute Teacher 9th-12th (25-26)

One-year position supporting classroom instruction by providing class coverage when teachers are absent and assisting the lead teacher with instruction and classroom management when coverage is not needed. The term continues through the end of the 2024-25 school year. At year’s end, opportunities may be available for other roles at KIPP DC schools; a position for the following school year is not guaranteed. As an In House Substitute Teacher, you will help maintain a positive classroom culture, support instructional delivery, and collaborate with staff to support student learning across grades 9-12. Responsibilities

Serve as the substitute in a classroom when a teacher is absent by delivering internalized lessons and maintaining a positive classroom culture Assist lead teachers with instruction, classroom culture, and administrative duties when substituting is not required Build trusting relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues Implement school-wide student culture policies within classrooms and everywhere on campus Conduct purposeful observations of excellent lead teachers Participate in regular meetings with teachers and leaders, grade level meetings, and network wide professional development Take on additional responsibilities throughout the school as needed Schedule: While students receive instruction from 8:00 am-3:30 pm, teachers are on duty in school from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm two times a week and 7:30 am to 4:00 pm three times a week Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, all majors accepted (Preferred) Completed 60 college credit hours or more in lieu of a conferred degree (Required) Experience working with PreK-12th grade students (Preferred) A belief that all students have the right to a high quality education where educators play an integral role in providing support so that all students can succeed Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC’s mission and to advancing its antiracist ambition through their work with staff, students, alumni, and families Successful track record of collaboratively working and building relationships with a wide range of people Receives and reflects on feedback, while demonstrating an eagerness to grow Flexibility and positivity to take on new responsibilities when needed A strong record of professionalism Compensation And Benefits

In House Substitute Teachers will receive an annual salary of $45,000 and a competitive benefits package. Following the In House Substitute Teacher year, opportunities may include Capital Teaching Residents ($52,000), Lead Teachers (starting at 65,500), or other roles at KIPP DC schools. As the In House Substitute Teacher role is a one-year position, a position for the following school year is not guaranteed. KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a One Medical membership. KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years. Currently, individuals in this role have up to 10 paid sick days, 12 paid holidays, paid Thanksgiving week break, winter break, spring break, and summer break. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter. All employees who use WMATA public transit are eligible for pre-tax deductions for transportation costs.
