Overview
The W.G. (Bill) Hefner Salisbury VA medical center is seeking an Ophthalmologist to join the Ophthalmology Section of Surgery Service. The physician functions within an interdisciplinary staff consisting of physicians, physician extenders, technicians, administrative and clerical staff. He/she is responsible and accountable for ensuring the provision of comprehensive surgical/clinical services and complies with established policies within the Department of Surgery/ Ophthalmology section. Responsibilities
Ophthalmologists are physicians who diagnose and treat diseases and disorders of the eye, including glaucoma and cataracts; vision problems such as nearsightedness; and eye injuries. Due to their extensive training, ophthalmologists can often link eye problems to other disorders such as brain tumors, diabetes, or multiple sclerosis. Ophthalmologists or Ophthalmic Surgeons are physicians who operate to repair injuries, correct deformities, prevent diseases, and generally improve the health of patients. They examine patients to determine if surgery is necessary, evaluate the risks involved, and select the appropriate surgical procedure. In addition to compliance with national and local regulatory, policy, and accreditation requirements governing this health care system, this position encompasses the following responsibilities, in partnership with the Administrative Officer and the support of the section chiefs, and supervisors. The incumbent requires appropriate time mapping and resources to ensure they are empowered to meet expected proficiencies in administration, clinical practice, education, and research.
