Manager, Purchasing The Manager, Purchasing, is responsible for overseeing all procurement activities to ensure a reliable supply of materials, components, and services that meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements. This role supports efficient production operations, optimizes supplier performance, and aligns with the company’s strategic growth objectives. It involves leading a team of Buyers and Purchasers in a hands-on leadership role, collaborating with other functions, and driving continuous improvement. Note: This position may require work outside normal business hours and occasional travel to supplier facilities. Responsibilities
Personnel Management The Manager, Purchasing, oversees the personnel within the Purchasing department, focusing on developing and implementing strategies to ensure OMW products meet established standards and are always improving. This includes hiring, training, performance management, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Hiring and Onboarding: Participating in recruitment, interviewing candidates, and ensuring new team members are trained in processes and safety procedures.
Performance Management: Setting goals, conducting reviews, providing feedback, and addressing performance issues.
Training and Development: Identifying training needs and developing programs to ensure team members have required skills.
Coaching and Mentoring: Supporting professional development and helping team members achieve career goals.
Team Building and Communication: Fostering collaboration within the team and with other departments, promoting continuous improvement.
Conflict Resolution: Addressing conflicts to maintain a productive work environment.
Policy and Procedure Implementation: Ensuring understanding and adherence to company policies, including safety regulations.
Employee Relations: Addressing concerns and promoting a respectful workplace.
Succession Planning: Identifying and developing high-potential employees for future leadership roles.
Promoting a Safety Culture: Ensuring safety procedures are followed and addressing safety concerns.
Purchasing Responsibilities
Develop and execute purchasing strategies aligned with production goals and cost targets.
Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers for raw materials, tooling, outside processing, and indirect goods/services.
Manage purchase order creation, revisions, and confirmations through the ERP system.
Monitor supplier performance metrics (price, quality, delivery) and implement corrective actions as needed.
Collaborate with production planning, engineering, and quality to align purchasing with timelines and technical requirements.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction, improved payment terms, and supply chain risk mitigation.
Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical sourcing, and applicable regulatory standards.
Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier contracts, and documentation for audits.
Participate in new product development and capital equipment procurement initiatives.
Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of purchasing or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in precision machining, fabrication, or similar industries.
Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing, cost analysis, and vendor management best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
CPM, CPSM, or APICS certification.
Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or other quality management systems.
