Overview
Aspen Leadership Group is proud to partner with Houston Grand Opera in the search for a Chief Philanthropy Officer. Reporting to the General Director and CEO, the Chief Philanthropy Officer will serve as a visionary leader and strategic partner to the General Director and CEO, the Executive Leadership Group, and the Board of Directors, responsible for shaping and driving a best-in-class fundraising and philanthropic partnership program. The Chief Philanthropy Officer will define and implement a forward-thinking fundraising strategy, steward a personal portfolio of major donors, and cultivate a culture of philanthropy across all levels of the organization. The role will ensure the alignment of contributed revenue goals with HGO’s artistic and operational priorities. In collaboration with a dedicated team, the Chief Philanthropy Officer will drive growth in individual, corporate, foundation, and government support, and play a key role in the success of Houston Grand Opera’s upcoming campaign. The Chief Philanthropy Officer will recruit, retain, and inspire high-performing team members and strengthen internal and external relationships to power HGO’s vision for the future.
About Houston Grand Opera Houston Grand Opera (HGO) enriches its diverse community through the art of opera by creating, curating, exploring, and producing outstanding experiences centered around the human voice. HGO is committed to the future of opera through initiatives that engage new audiences and give artists a stage for their voices to be heard. HGO has commissioned 78 world premieres and has hosted American premieres of major operas, supporting new eras of the art form in multiple genres, time periods, and languages.
Organization and Setting Houston Grand Opera, located in Houston, Texas, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1955. The company presents six to eight productions per season at the Wortham Theater Center in two venues: the Alice and George Brown Theater and the Roy and Lillie Cullen Theater, with an operating budget of $35–40 million. The Sarah and Ernest Butler Houston Grand Opera Studio, established in 1977, is one of the earliest comprehensive young artist training programs in the United States. HGO is committed to providing world-class art to the community and is dedicated to inclusion and accessibility for all qualified candidates.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; at least 10 years of fundraising leadership experience preferred.
Experience leading fundraising programs that include individual, corporate, foundation, and government support.
Ability to build strategic partnerships, steward high-value donors, and drive a culture of philanthropy across the organization.
Strong collaboration and people leadership skills to recruit, retain, and develop high-performing teams.
Demonstrated ability to align revenue goals with artistic and operational priorities.
